WERC News - Fall 2006 Recent news on our rapidly growing Small Wind business. First a question: As large windy weather fronts continue to blow across North America, many of us wonder if global warming is increasing the average wind speed in some locations. Does anyone out there know about any definitive science on global warming affecting wind speeds? Thanks in advance...email back to me. Here is the news blowing in from our front: USDA small wind turbine grants: WERC was successful in getting USDA grants for eight out of eight of our wind turbine clients this summer...the USDA announced recently that all 8 will be receiving federal grants for their wind mills, paying 25% of the cost of each of their Jacobs 31-20 wind turbine system (price currently = $59,500 each). We have successfully helped our customers get numerous grants from local power companies, foundations and other grant funders. The last newsletter showed that we received two other nice grants this spring for wind turbines also, so we are feeling good about our grant writing services. So, for 2007, we will again be writing many more grant applications. If you want us to help your write a grant or do the complete applications for you, please let us know so you can get in line for the 2007 grants, starting right now. Our grant writing fees for 2007 are $75/hour and the applications take somewhere between 5 to 15 hours total. Call or email us. HUG Campus: Hunt Utility Group, LLC has a brand new Jacobs wind turbine making electricity at their campus, installed by WERC in September. Their campus is one of the leading Renewable Energy campuses in the Midwest, featuring buildings that completely power themselves. Some of the interesting buildings are also made from local clay and straw bales (Cob construction). Here is a link to their site: www.hugllc.com. WSJ article: Recently, our founder, David Winkelman was asked to contribute to an article published in the Wall Street Journal about small wind turbine business. Here's a link to the story: Click Here Small Wind Turbine systems continue to be a great investment. There may be some additional incentives after this falls election, so stay tuned.
