The Eco Domes Conservation Campus is also powered by wind generators which creates most of the electricity for the utilities and appliances.

The Eco-Domes has three turbines: Jacobs 31-20 (pictured at left) is a 20 kilowatt turbine on a 120 foot lattice tower. A 3000 watt Whisper on a 90 foot tower and a 12 volt Air-X with lights the front sign. (See details.)

With spiraling utility bills, the need for uninterrupted service, the high cost of accessing the utility’s electric grid from a remote location, and concerns over environmental impacts are leading to the rush to residential wind systems. Reducing dependence on potentially volatile electric prices is another key motivator for many home-scale windsmiths.

The investment in wind power will pay for itself in a relatively short period of time, and after that the electricity is virtually free.  Wind Generator products and system information is available through WERC.
